Nairobi on a Rainy Day: What to Do Indoors
Museums, galleries, craft studios and cafes for when the rain comes in.
Nairobi Guide Editors · 20 Oct 2026 · 1 min read

Nairobi has two rainy seasons: the long rains from roughly March to May and the short rains from October to December. Showers are usually heavy and brief, but traffic gets slower when it rains, so plan indoor stops close together.
Museums and galleries
- Nairobi National Museum for human origins, wildlife galleries and a good cafe.
- Nairobi Gallery for Kenyan art in a restored colonial building.
- Nairobi Railway Museum for old locomotives, with covered displays.
- GoDown Arts Centre for studios, exhibitions and sometimes live music.
